The copyright law No. 28 is issued in February 2001, stated what work can be registered and protected, what are the procedures, and the duration.
Syria has joined the Rome convention (International Convention for the Protection of Performers, Producers of Phonograms and Broadcasting Organizations) and it will be into effect as of May 13, 2006.  Therefore, the Law No. 28 is now under revision and the new amended law is to be issued soon

Article 22 of law No. 28 stated that the author shall be entitled for copyright protection for his lifetime and fifty years thereafter. If the work is a combined work of more than one author, then the copyrighted work is entitled for a lifetime protection and fifty years after the death of the last author of the work.
